As a partnership between artist and scientist, Playhouse Arts coordinated the collaboration of many minds to create art installations in the Creamery District highlighting the unique ecosystem of the Jolly Giant Creek. Over the past year, James Hildebrandt has designed and created two 14 foot stainless steel sculptures. Working with the City of Arcata, the sculptures will be installed along the L Street Bike Path at 8th and 9th Streets in the Creamery District.

The Playhouse Education team worked with Fieldbrook Elementary and Redwood Coast Montessori to create a mural installation that depicts the plant and animal life that inhabit the Jolly Giant Creek. Sarah McKinney, Mackenzie Ridgwood and Haley Davis have been working with 1st-4th grade students to create a 4 by 72 foot mural that will grace the fence along the L Street Bike Path in the Creamery District. Each student completed a 2×2′ section of the mural from their home.

Both installations highlight Jolly Giant Creek and its diverse ecology. The installations trace the creeks’ path through the Creamery District and into Humboldt Bay.
