The Playhouse partners with the California Arts Council, Humboldt County Office of Education and local business sponsors to bring low cost theatre and resources to educators. Bring your students to the theatre for an unforgettable experience!
In 2023, performers from the Pacific island chain of Hawaii, and also our home the beautiful Pacific Northwest Coast will be hosting shows at the Playhouse Theatre. We’ll work with you to make planning and executing your field trip or our program stress-free and straightforward, and all of our programs connect to curriculum you can use in your classroom.

In 1947, the Year of the Boar, a young girl left China with her parents for a new beginning in America, but it was harder than she expected. Through a new love of the Brooklyn Dodgers (especially her hero Jackie Robinson), Shirley begins to feel at home. Based on the book by Bette Bao Lord and told through humor, Chinese and English, and a rich multimedia staging, the play celebrates the bravery and sacrifice of those who bring new perspectives to our country.

Stories from Home is a collection of tales from local storytellers and musicians. Weaving together puppets, stories and live music the Playhouse Ensemble will be joined by Craig Kurumada and others to create a visual and sensory treat. Stories from Home reaches into the heart of where we live, who we are and who we can become.

Leapin’ Louie and JuggleMania use cowboy rope tricks, plate spinning, tall unicycle and other silly skills to explore Science and flight: from dragon flies to juggling clubs, Gravity to Levity, their STEAM shenanigans teach and tickle.
