Playhouse Arts is offering free art classes for our unhoused and housing insecure neighbors in different art disciplines: writing, painting, book binding, movement, music, storytelling, filmmaking, theater and more. We believe in the importance of having all voices contribute to creating culture, and in the need to humanize all experiences. We believe the arts are a transformative medium for self-knowledge, self-worth, and collective contribution toward the world we deserve.

By utilizing various art mediums, this project aims to bring awareness to the overlapping flaws in our system that leave people behind and damage our environment. It will allow houseless, housing insecure, and housed artists to have artful conversations while diverting trash from the wastestream into the artstream.
Other ongoing projects, like the memorial to those who died in the street, and individual artists’ projects always fill Our Space with contagious creativity. We just finalized a mural with Ben Goulart and community participants. Its final location in our community will soon be shared with all.
As a culmination of the art created by people attending this program, a zine was created and shared at the Arts Alive! in June. View it here!
