Acerca del evento
Obon is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of one’s ancestors. This family-friendly event is organized by the Humboldt Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity (HAPI). The festival is celebrated Humboldt style and will open with a Buddhist blessing by Rev. Sakamoto, formerly of the San Jose Buddhist Church, who will share stories and traditions of Obon. We will have an altar and ancestors’ tree to honor ones who have passed. Join in the Obon dancing to live music and enjoy taiko drumming. Explore food vendors (Asian and Pacific Islander cuisine), artists, children’s activities, merch and more. Free to the public! Festival goers are encouraged to wear kimonos, yukata or other Japanese-style outfits.
HANDICAP PARKING is located on the north side of the Holly Yashi parking lot which is accessible from 10th Street.
