Mothers: Two Solo Stories

MOTHERS: TWO SOLO STORIES ON MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND

Award-winning solo show artist Randall Denham and veteran improv performer Marabeth McSeveney take the stage to explore the enduring and complex relationship of the mother-child bond. How do we finally cut the apron strings and sever the effects of the umbilical cord? Through hilarious and heartfelt solo storytelling, these two performers will dive into the messy middle of the mother-child bond, sharing intimate tales of longing, loss, and forgiveness.

First Story: Your Mother’s Ghost: Written and Performed by Randall Denham

Randall Denham returns to his childhood home, a small town on the coast of Northern California, to confront the ghost of his mother. In this gripping performance we witness the lifelong dance between a mother and son – Is it a Waltz or a Pogo? As he delves deeper into the shadows of his past, Randall attempts to recover the truth and reclaim himself. Can he find the truth or just more lies? Is forgiveness possible?

**Trigger Warning** – This story includes elements that may be triggering for survivors of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse**

Second Story: Limbo is Closed: Confessions of a Reluctant Catholic Girl:Written and Performed by Marabeth McSeveney

Born to a devout religious Mother, Marabeth McSeveney, a young reluctant catholic girl, tries to find her own spiritual connection, and questions the religious fairytale. But when the devil shows up, all hell breaks loose and she clings to the magic spell of the rosary…until it stops working. What will it take to actually tame the demons? She tries everything except heroin. When she has children of her own, she relapses..back to religion. As she attempts to raise kids of her own, she turns again and again to her mother to quell the panic. Until she can’t. Will she ever be free to figure it out for herself?
