Homage to the Jazz Message

James Zeller and Ramsey Isaacs, through the auspices of the Creative Sanctuary and with the generous support of Playhouse Arts, present "Homage to the Message: A Tribute to Wayne Shorter". Shorter, a prolific composer and recording artist, is best known for his solo albums and his work with the seminal Miles Davis 60's Quintet. Many of his earliest recordings were with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, for whom he wrote (by our count) 31 compositions that were recorded by the that prestigious organization.

This "Homage" show will focus specifically on Mr. Shorter's many fantastic compositions with the Messengers. The band for this show will be James Zeller, trombone; Tree, tenor saxophone; Gil Cline, trumpet; Matthew Seno, piano; Lee Phillips, bass; and Ramsey Isaacs on drums in the role of Art Blakey himself.The "Homage to the Jazz Message" series honors Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, a collective group that began in the 1950s…
